Despite the defeat, Marseille knock out Villarreal

Villarreal overcame Marseille, 3-1, on Thursday, in a match relating to the Last 16 of the Europa League. Jean-Louis Gasset's team beat Marcelino Toral's team, 4-0, in the first leg of the tie.

Étienne Capoue opened the score with 32 minutes on the clock.

Villarreal scored their second goal of the game through Alexander Sorloth, after 54 minutes. With 85 minutes on the clock, Yerson Mosquera doubled the lead for Marcelino Toral's team. In stoppage time, Jonathan Clauss wrapped things up.

Thanks to this result, Marseille are through to the next round of the competition.
