Aston Villa defeat Lille after a penalty shootout

Lille overcame Aston Villa in a close win on Thursday, 2-1, in a match relating to the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League. Unai Emery's team beat Paulo Fonseca's team, 2-1, in the first leg of the tie.

The first goal of the game was scored by Yusuf Yazici, after 15 minutes.

With 67 minutes on the clock, Lille extended their lead with a goal from Benjamin André. Matty Cash netted the last goal in the final minutes of the game. With this strike, Matty Cash reached 5th goals for the season.

In the closing stages of the game, Aston Villa saw Emiliano Martínez get sent off due to accumulation of yellows.

Thanks to this result, Aston Villa are through to the next round of the competition.
